Christmas Magic | Scrappy Challenges

Last night I had a fab evening taking part in a few of the online challenges I have come across recently. I’d forgotten how much I love the challenge of combining different challenges on one layout.

I combined 3 challenges with this one layout!

1. Hey Little Magpie - use vellum on a layout

2. Stuck?! sketches current sketch challenge

3. For the love of Pretty paper - Advent Calendar Challenge 2 (tiny word stickers, puffy stickers, gold alpha, sequins, project life style card and stamping)

I love this Winter Crate Paper ‘Falala’ collection. The colour scheme is super cute, a mix of traditional red and green but with the added tones of pink and blue.

To add mixed media to my background I used mist with the packaging technique and smooshed it on the white cardstock.

Christmas is my favourite time of year and its great looking back at my scrapbook pages from previous years. I spend all of December preparing for Christmas and scrapbooking during this season fills my heart.

~ GoGo Getaway November | My class ~

The first weekend of November I went to a GoGo Getaway scrapbooking retreat in Haydock, Merseyside. It was a fabulous weekend and I got to teach another class as part of their design team. The overall technique for the weekend was the use of watercolours.

The first layout I taught used watercolours on a white cardstock background to make a white globe cut file pop out.

The second layout uses watercolours to create a whole background to layer elements on top of. In this case it was a collection of clouds.

We had such a great weekend and it was great that it was closer to home than Hertfordshire
(although Theobalds Park will always be the home of GoGo Getaway!). If you happen to be from North West England you may be excited to know that there is a GoGo Dayaway event planned for Haydock next November. Details can be found on the website.

December Daily Prep | UK Scrap Addicts

I'm up on the UK Scrap Addicts Blog today showcasing my December Daily Prep. This year I have vowed to be organised ad to get the most of it done by January 2018.

I'll try to share a few pages on my blog from my album throughout December to show how my prep has helped (or not!) with being productive.

Let me know who you are getting on with your album or Christmas crafting.

Be Inspired... | GoGo Getaway Nov 2017

I'm up today on the GoGo Getaway blog today with my Be Inspired.. challenge from the recent GoGo Getaway in Haydock. Head over to the blog to see what I challenged all the delegates to do.

Here are a couple of layouts I created for some of the other Design Team Girls' challenges.

I'm not usually one for double layouts but I really enjoyed creating these.

Wander around Town | Jen Hadfield

I'm back on this cold Monday morning with a double page which is unusual for me. I have recently been creating more double pages, especially to incorporate more photos in to my travel albums.

Dubrovnik Old Town has the most stunning little alley ways and scenery to explore. I took far too many photos and couldn't choose. This is a good 'go to' design for an easy double page, thanks to Shimelle's classes.

When creating double pages I like to add embellishments that cross over both pages. As you can see the bike crosses at the bottom of the page.

I've used lots of ephemera to create clusters in four areas on the layout. Again I've used a mix of three different alphas including the lovely script word from Shimelle Go Now Go collection.

Smile in the Rain | Shimelle Glitter Girl

I started to create this layout way back in September. I created a base background but then couldn't decide how I wanted the layout to look. Finally I managed to get it done and I'm so happy with the results.

Its a very busy layout which doesn't have a huge amount of 'white' space. It is unusual for me to go with a background that isn't white or a patterned paper but I love how the black looks especially with the mist splatters in the top left and bottom right corners.

This cute smile Perspextive from Bramble Fox is perfect for the title I wanted to create. I'm really enjoying using a variety of different alphas on one longer title at the moment.

There are lots of squares in the Glitter Girl collection and I found it very boxy to use. I added a few nuvo drops to the splatters to add more texture and some brighter pops of colour along with the metallic Heidi Shine mist.

~ One cut file 3 ways | Pretty My Page ~

A while ago I was sent this lovely Autumnal Wreath cut file from Pretty My Page to use. I decided to have a go at using one single cut file on more than one page to show how they can be used.

I used the leftovers from the cut file to create the background for this page. The white card with a watercolour green paper gave a great starting point. I added in fussy cut florals and some punched out foliage as embellishment.

For this layout I placed the wreath cut file on top of a white piece of card and used mists to create a shadow effect once the wreath was removed.

Finally, I used the actual wreath as the focal point for the page. By this point I was a little over the whole circular layout so chose to cut the wreath in half and stick it down on opposite sides. The large metallic leaf elements have been in my stash for years and originally belonged to a necklace from Primark.

I loved using this versatile cut file from Pretty My Page
and I can't wait to see what other files she designs.

Pink & Paper | Oh Happy moments

Happy Monday, sadly I too am back at work today after being off yesterday. However the weather here in the UK has taken a turn for winter and it was only 3 degrees this morning!

Pink & Paper Shop have just launched a new monthly challenge. This month it was a sketch challenge and I couldn't wait to join in. I loved the idea of having different 6x6 squares to create the background. I have so many 6x6 pads to use up so this was perfect.

My Sri Lanka is on the final stretch to almost being finished so at the moment I am trying to be selective about the layouts I create for this album so I can add the stories that haven't been told yet. This is the first meal we had and was definitely one of the best!

I'm super excited to be heading to Liverpool this weekend to teach at my second GoGo Getaway Scrapbooking retreat. Need to get organised and pack my crop tote.

GoGo Getaway | Sweet Summer

I'm up on the GoGo Getaway Blog today with a sunny summer layout to brighten up the dull autumn days. I'm determined to use up some of my summer themed Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections.

This month the technique I've taken inspiration from is to decorate a cut file background with some kind of mixed media. I created the background using a cut file from Hip Kit Club.

Hip Kit Club | Fur Baby

Using August's Hip Kit Club kit plus a couple of bits from my stash I created this layout of my sleepy little pussy cat. Oscar loves to lay on my bed amongst the scatter cushions. I'm totally in love with those black and white striped fabric bows.

I created a scattering of embellishments across the centre of the page in a horizontal direction.  These included puffy stickers, pom poms and nuvo crystal drops. Most of the products were from the kit and from the Maggie Holmes 'Carousel' collection.
Using the packaging technique I added some Heidi Swapp Colour Shine in teal to add some colour to the white cardstock background.

I added a flair and acrylic word from Bramble Fox. I'm absolutely in love with this new UK company. They have some lovely items and great service. I'm excited to get more of their products over the next few weeks.

Thanks for stopping by and I should be back with a new layout to share next week.

Art from the Heart | Art Journalling Class

Happy Monday crafty friends, today I'm sharing a couple of art journal pages I did at a class at Art from the Heart a few weeks ago. The class was taught by the lovely Tracy Scott.

We used Paper Artsy stamps designed by Tracy to add the butterfly and background stamps. We used black journalling pens to draw on the bunting. We drew over the stamped images to give them a 'hand drawn' feel.

For this page we created a brightly coloured background covered in stamped images and stencils, then using a butterfly mask covered it all up! I know shocking right! But look how fab it looks in the end. Using a white journalling pen we added in the scribbled details around the butterfly and words.

I absolutely loved doing this class. It was my first real attempt at art journalling and I really enjoyed it. It was great to just relax and put something down without too much thought. The process is so relaxing, I can't wait to try another class. I think my heart will still belong to scrapbooking but this was so enjoyable that I hope to continue doing it now and again.

~ Home Decor | One Canoe Two Globe ~

Happy Monday! A quick and simple post from me today. When I saw these globes from One Canoe Two earlier in the year I knew I desperately needed to get the one with the world map on it to use as décor for the sideboard in our lounge.

I used the pin head sticker embellishments to add on to the map each place that we have visited around the world both individually and together. Then wrapped bunting around the globe trying not to cover up any of the pins.

We both love to travel and see the world, for me its experiencing the different cultures and food. I find it fascinating to see how people in other countries live. Plus I'm obsessed with food and find it great to see/try new foods. Next we are off to Lithuania for a quick 5 night city break and we have just booked our first 2018 trip. I'm super excited to go to Egypt and Jordan in January!

This globe is a great way for me to visually document our travels and I love how it looks in the lounge. Have you created with a One Canoe Two globe? I would love to see your globes!

~ Tim Holtz | Creative Chemistry UK Workshop ~

I was fortunate enough to be one of the few people who managed to get a spot on Tim Holtz's class at Art from the Heart in Harrogate. He ran the class 6 times and there were 24 of us in each class. It was a technique based class so it was all about learning how to create backgrounds using Distress products.

We go this cute little folder to store all our tags in at the end and a custom made 'Creative Chemistry UK edition' fabric label for the front. We were also given a few other treats too. The necklace to the right of the book is from his jewellery range for JoAnns store. Plus we got a tote bag from CHA, notebook and apron.

The first 5 tags were created using Distress Ink, Crayons and Spray Stains.

These five tags were made using the newer Distress Oxide products.

My favourite tags were these two:

It was a fast paced 4 hour class but so much fun! The idea behind the quick paced nature was so we didn't over think anything and just 'got over ourselves'. Tim was a fantastic teacher, fun and so down to earth.

This was an early Christmas present from my mum and we had such a great day. Stopping over at the Premier Inn really meant that we were refreshed and ready to get inky. We are so fortunate that Art from the Heart is only an hours drive from us, I love going there for classes.

I can't wait to play with my new supplies and the techniques we learnt.

GoGo Getaway | Lovely Liverpool Mini Book

I'm over on the GoGo Getaway Blog with a mini book created from scratch using Nancy's brilliant instructions. Head over to see the full book.

I've absolutely loved making this mini book as I haven't made one in such a long time. It has been a great way to document our trip to Liverpool in June.

~ Inspired by Sam Ball | Charmed ~

Happy Sunday! I've set up at the Café Nero to do some blogging whilst I wait for the boy to run the Sheffield 10k. There are lovely views for the peace gardens from the upstairs of this café and its so peaceful there on a Sunday morning.

I had some left over stash from Sam's Class at the Birds of a Feather retreat earlier in the year so I used it along with some inspiration from her designs to create this page. Adding a few extra bits from my stash.

I love this photo of the monkeys just hanging around at Lion's Rock in Sri Lanka. They were everywhere but I loved how the mist in the background gave the monkeys in the foreground a great contrast. My Sri Lanka album is coming along nicely now. Hopefully will get it fully completed before the end of the year.

~ Happy Sweet Summer Days ~

August has been a pretty busy month for me since going back to work. I've managed to get a little time to scrap here and there. I bought this Simple Stories 'Summer Days' collection in May ready for a summer of scrapping.

I saw a layout on Instagram by Zsoka Marko and used that as my inspiration for this page. She used lots of circular elements across the mid line of the layout. I used stickers and circular pieces of patterned paper to embellish my layout.

This page documents the yummy ice cream we had after walking round Newmillerdam Country Park whilst trying to build up my fitness post op. We had some fantastic weather in June, it's a shame it hasn't continued in to July and August.

~ GoGo Getaway | Sri Lanka ~

Last week I was up on the GoGo Getaway Blog with my take on Kirei's shaker title technique from the March getaway.

I've created a title page for my Sri Lanka album with a large title and 3 shaker letter elements.

Loving using these flair from Bramble Fox, they have some perfect ones that match in with my travel layouts.

~ Sheena's Class no.2 | Birds of a Feather Retreat ~

Sheena's class at the retreat focused on using Crate Paper 'Heart Day' collection. We created our own frames using a homemade mould and hot glue gun. The frames are then trimmed and painted.

For this layout we also made our own tassels using crochet twine. Watercolour splatters and packaging technique added colour to the white backgrounds.

Lots of lovely layers using the cut apart sheet and the collection's sticker sheet. I wasn't sure about the rubber heart charms as it's not something I would normally choose to use but they really add a different texture to the page.

~ Sam's Class | Birds of a Feather Retreat ~

One of Sam's classes at the retreat was using Heidi Swapp's 'Magnolia Jane' Collection. This was the class layout and then we also had a bonus layout we could make.

We fussy cut the floral acetate sheet from the collection and made the heart shape from triangles cut out of different patterned papers. Sam loves to use border punches to create detail to the edges of her pages.

When I added this page to my India album I actually realised I have already scrapped a landscape photo exactly the same but it is amazing to see the difference between the two pages.

~ Wilna's Classes | Birds of a Feather Retreat ~

The Guest Designer for the Birds of a Feather Retreat was Wilna Furstenburg. She had designed and videoed 2 exclusive classes for us. She taught us how to create some of her iconic backgrounds.

Everyone created fantastic pages, even those who feel they are not artistic managed to create beautiful backgrounds for their layouts. Wilna created these exclusive floral die cuts for the classes.

I absolutely love these two layouts. The backgrounds look nothing until you add the photos and embellishments on top.

~ Sheena's Class no.1 | Birds of a Feather Retreat ~

At the fabulous Birds of a Feather Retreat Sheena did a fantastic class using crochet twine to cover chipboard frames. This is a great example of using a grid to create an eye catching layout using the Dear Lizzy collection.

This is actually such a simple design and I love the finished item. I will definitely scrap lift this layout again maybe adding some mixed media in there as well.

This page documents our trip to a little tearoom in Staithes. My boy always pulls a funny face and sticks out his pinky finger when drinking tea. I love how striking the black and white photos are.

~ Posh Breakfast ~

When the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Wild at Heart' collection I fell in love with it! I only managed to get my hands on the chipboard stickers, enamel dots and some patterned papers so I tried to stretch it out as much as possible.

This layout was created for the Hey Little Magpie challenge to use more than 2 3x4 journal cards. I used the cards from the cut apart sheet in the collection.

It documents my mum and I at Jamie Oliver's Barbecoa Picadilly restaurant having breakfast. I had smoked salmon and cream cheese on pumpernickel bread. We often go to London the day before GoGo Getaway in March and this time it was also an extra special birthday treat for my 30th.

~ Happy | Birds of a Feather Retreat ~

At the end of May I went to a scrapbooking retreat organised by Birds of a Feather in Walsall, Midlands. It was the first full weekend they had done as previously they had only run day workshops. This retreat was my Christmas present from my parents and it was lovely to spend time with my mum and see people who I know online. We were given these great Birds of a Feather Aprons.

I used a mix of the April and May Hip Kits to create this layout. I love that chevron paper from Shimelle's 'little by little' collection.

We had a great weekend and I managed to create 15 pages from the classes and the challenges. I'm going to share some of these pages over the next few weeks.
